The PM6006 is the award winning successor of the previous PM6005 model. This amp has not been revolutionised, but has simply evolved from the already superb PM6005. This unit has kept the pre-amp and power-amp sections that uniquely feature discrete components, there isn't a single IC to be found in sight of the signal path.
The Build
The PM6006 has the stylish 'Marantz look' that has been carried through the series, you can see the resemblance going right back to the PM6001. The aluminium chassis may be a bit busy, however it is still beautifully designed, and can be bought in either silver/gold or black. It has various dials on the front for input, volume and tone controls. An added feature to the amp is its new 'high-performance' feet that continues to minimise any unwanted vibrations that can take away from your music experience. Also, the digital section is fully shielded by an extra metal housing to guarantee that the digital stage has absolutely no effect on the analogue stage. All in all, the aesthetic of the unit is also beneficial to its function.
The Specification
This is a 2 channel amplifier, and can be connected to various digital sources to use its superior 24-bit/192kHz high current C4398 DAC. Which basically means that your music will have a greater resolution, and you'll be able to listen to the subtleties in your favourite songs as they're less likely to be drowned out. There are 5 audio inputs including 2 optical and 1 coaxial digital input, one more optical input than the previous model for more connectivity. The PM6006 has 4-line level inputs including phono and has two pairs of gold-plated speaker connections.
Everything else
This amplifier weighs a sturdy 7.6kg, and has the dimensions: 440 x 370 x 105 (mm). Its power consumption is 155w and on standby mode it's only 0.3w. The power output ranges between 45w to 60w and has an auto power off feature: if after approximately 30 minutes there is no audio input or is simply not being operated, the unit will automatically switch to standby mode to save the pennies. And there is also a detachable power cable, so when not in use it can be neatly packed away. If all this isn't enough, there is also a remote control that comes with it, no need to keep wasting energy going up and down to change songs or pump up the music.
