Sony WH1000XM2 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones
Sony WH1000XM2 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones
Sony has replaced their previous award winning MDR-1000X headphones with their all new WH-1000XM2s. We can expect great things from these headphones, as it has been awarded 5 stars across the board from 'What Hi-Fi?'. Not only that, Sony is known for their premium noise-cancelling headphones, so this is another pair that is going to be incredibly hard to beat.
The Look and Build
In terms of just looking at these headphones they do look quite similar to the MDR-1000Xs, but there are some notable differences. For example the finishes have been changed slightly, no more is there standard Beige but now it's Champagne Gold. Black is still an option, but because of the material changes that Sony have made, the finish looks more of a gun metal or a bluey grey. Also continuing from the old model, the comfort levels are still high and sit comfortably on the ears without falling off.
Digital Noise Cancelling and Atmospheric Pressure Optimising
By using 'Sony Headphones Connect' app (which you can download for both Android and iOS) you can get an extra level of customisation for your headphones, you can adjust it to better suit your individual listening style and even your altitude. Sony has developed and built in a small pressure sensor in the left earpiece, and this is used to monitor your altitude whilst in the air. A shift in altitude is known to disrupt the frequency balance of the headphones, not only that but it also affects the sensitivity of the microphones used for noise cancelling. When you turn this feature on, you can eliminate background noise of the plane and other passengers and feel like it's just you and your music. You can also enjoy no noise with wireless freedom. These headphones are made for flying, but don't worry if your feet are firmly on the ground, the noise cancelling feature is made for everyone.
Smart Listening by Adaptive Sound Control
This automatically detects what activity you are doing and then modifies ambient sound settings to you. This feature is also customisable with the 'Sony Headphones Connect' app. If you're travelling, these headphones remove all background noise so there is nothing to distract you from your tunes. If you're walking to your location, you can be aware of everything around you while still enjoying your music. And if you're waiting (at an airport for example) you can hear important announcements while you wait with reduced background noise. The WH1000XM2 headphones are built to work around you and your lifestyle.
Quick Attention
Now you don't need to keep pausing your music or taking the 'phones off and putting them on again when someone tries to talk to you. With Quick Attention, all you need to do is place your hand over the housing to turn down the volume for a spontaneous conversation. And once you're done, move your hand away and the music level will go back to what it was.
Virtual Surround Sound
Wherever you go, feel like you're immersed in sound. Within the app, there are 4 different surround modes that you can choose: Arena; Club; Outdoor stage and Concert hall. If you want to further modify these settings, then you can play around with an equaliser to better suit you.
High Resolution Audio
You can listen you your favourite tunes without deviating from the original recording with high-res audio. Optimised for High-Resolution Audio, S-Master HX minimises the distortions and lets you listen to the subtleties in your music. These headphones also come installed with a powerful 40mm driver with Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragm used to handle heavy beats and can reproduce a full range of frequencies of up to 440kHz.
Hands-free and Touch control
Double tap the centre of the headphone speaker to enjoy easy hands-free calling. You can also change the track and change the volume by tapping or swiping the panel with your fingertip.
Battery Life
For a quick 10 minute charge, you can enjoy 70 minutes of play. A full charge will take 4 hours, and will give you a varied battery life depending on what features you have active. With everything on you can get 20 hours, turning off Sony's DSEE HX audio processing can give you 30 hours, and if you listen wired with just noise cancelling turned on then you can get an amazing 38 hours of battery life.
