Manchester City's Sergio Aguero Reveals World Cup Injury Fears
Injured Manchester City and Argentina forward Sergio Aguero fears that he could miss the World Cup if he forces himself to return before he has completely recovered.
The 25-year-old has been seriously injured twice before this season alone, and he has admitted that he did not give himself enough time to recover the last time he was out.
"With this recovery, I am trying to do my best to be able to play again, but I cannot do it in a hurry. I do think to myself if something happens now, I will lose the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup," he said.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini would love to have Aguero back in fighting form to help with their title challenge – and Aguero would naturally want wish for the same. Yet, with the World Cup looming, the Argentine obviously feels that it would be safer to rest until he is 100% ready to return.
Are Argentina World Cup Contenders?
When asked for his opinion on Argentina’s chances in the World Cup, Aguero said, “We know that we have a great team, but each match has to be played. There doesn't exist any easy matches, but I think that with the squad that we have, there are chances. It depends on us.”
Argentina are clearly one of the favourites to win the competition this Summer. With an attacking force that consists of Lionel Messi, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuaín there can be no doubts in anyone’s mind that their attack is a dangerous one.
Their defensive display is probably their weakest position on the field. Although, cup competitions like the World Cup can be won with pure fire-power alone – and so Argentina will fancy their chances.
The Argentines have been drawn in arguably the easiest group of the tournament, along with Bosnia Herzegovina, Iran & Nigeria. With weaker opponents, I don’t think this Argentina side will worry too much about conceding many goals.
That then leaves Argentina's opening World Cup fixtures to be dictated by the likes of Sergio Aguero, if he is fit, and the strong attacking team around him.
